India's journey on the outsourcing super highway is frequented with major hurdles and potholes. But being a well recognised IT super power she has lot of things going for her. Most importantly the availability of high qulity and cheap labor makes sure that good jobs are handled by good people. The IT work culture in India is charecterised by highly dedicated and intelligent work force who works hard and makes things happen.
The result is more and more jobs being outsourced from west and a growing job market. Though compared to western salaries, Indian are paid very less but the pay what they get is not a small amount in India.
A college graduate just out of college when absorbed by BPO's gets somewhere arount Rs. 8500 to Rs. 12000 per month. Its just $200 -$280 in US dollors. But In India a cup of Coffee does not cost $1 as in US, it costs only Rs 3 to 5, similarly in US a good meal in a fast food joint would cost you $6 to $10 where as in India the same McDonald or KFC meal would cost $1 to $3. So the bottomline is these guys are paid handsomely by Indian standards. |
